I always thought talent gets better as the years move on. For example, the Olympic records have been shattered over and over again every 4 years. But is it the same with music, doesn't feel like it?

The sports analogy isn't quite right as modern athletes have much more tools at their hands to achieve better results (better equipment, preparation, and why not say, better drugs). With the singers is different. You cannot become a better singer by taking miracle pills or using a better microphone... So, from my point of view, singers like Gillan, Dio, Ray Charles, and Plant are still the best ever.
