I have been a Talking DJ for over 15 years now. By saying Talking DJ, it means someone who not just plays music selection but also makes announcements, plugs commercials/promotions and greets customers in a well‑modulated, articulate and humble manner; hence a cool pleasant voice is an absolute requirement to do so. As a Talking DJ, my job is not only limited on the DJ's booth playing music and talking via airwaves. Subject to the policy of the establishment, I also strive to establish good interpersonal relationship to all the guests which includes joining them at their tables for some tête-à-tête, mainly to build good rapport with them so they will be pleased to feel at home, hence they will come back to become regular and loyal patrons.
Additionally, I am involved with the selection of music to be played depending on the theme and type of crowd present, as well as the discretion of the entertainment manager. My repertoires include, but are not limited to, R & B, Hip-Hop, and the current music trend in most of Asia which is House Music. In cases of shows and other party‑type events, I do the hosting part of the program, including introductions and intermissions. In the presence of live bands, I am also involved with sound control and maintenance, scheduling of sets interval and voice overs.
Furthermore sound mixing and tempo maneuvers are also inevitable so that transitioning of music will not be noticeable while changing tracks. Finally, I make it a point to check before starting my duty and afterwards, the condition of the equipments to lessen the risk of any untoward incident such as poor sound output or distortion of sounds, feedbacks from the speakers, among others, and to ensure proper function of basic equipments including lighting conditions and overall performance. | |||||||||
